Meet Joycelyn Urech

Hi, I’m Joycelyn,

I am a native of Houston, Texas, cyclist and gym rat. I’m a Texan, but I don’t own a hat or cowboy boots—I do like the way they look on other people though!

I have been practicing law for more than 25 years and have worked in various areas of law. Most of my practice has been focused on Real Estate and Estate Planning.

Growing up in Texas I always saw oil wells being drilled, and I knew people who had oil wells on their property. So naturally, I decided that I wanted to work in the oil and gas industry. I got my undergraduate degree in Geophysics and later fell in love with real estate law.

I obtained my real estate license and then went to paralegal school. That wasn’t enough for me, so I applied to one law school and was accepted.  I was not trying to save the world but knew that the practice of law was what I wanted to pursue, especially real estate. What is the common thread here? Oil and gas law is a special area of real estate law, lots of leases and contracts.

After spending a few years in a general legal practice—which involved real estate law, along with some probate and estate planning—I decided that probate and estate planning fit nicely with real estate so I added it to my areas of practice. That’s what the primary focus of my practice has been.

Real estate law is an area of law that is often ignored, but very necessary. That might be why I enjoy it so much. Estate Planning is essential, but it’s generally a delicate topic; requiring strategic conversations, which I love. Medicaid can be delicate for some, and is often overlooked as well.

Each of these areas of law excite me and I feel passionate about each of the people I help along the way. I hope to have the opportunity to assist as many people as possible with planning for their future and keeping their property properly titled.
